KTN appoints The Data City as their data provider

The Data City has secured an agreement with the innovation network, KTN to identify specific companies and growing business sectors as part of their ongoing work.

KTN is an independent organisation that connects ideas, people and communities to create real world solutions to the biggest challenges faced by the UK Government and industry.

Our previous work on Manchester’s Local Industrial strategy led to an introduction between the two businesses. The Data City co-founder Alex Craven was asked by a new member of KTN to demo our company classification solution to KTN’s team after presenting at a business forum.

KTN were looking to identify innovative companies, particularly in emerging sectors of the UK economy. They were impressed with our solution as it helped them to understand business sectors not covered by existing Companies House SIC codes.

Quite simply, their needs were fulfilled by The Data City’s solution as that is what the platform is designed to address: identifying business sectors and providing hard to find, real time company data. The Data City’s methodology, the ‘RTIC’ (or Real-Time Industry Classification) code, accurately identifies organisations within specific industry sectors in real time, using machine-learning to accurately classify companies operating within the UK.

Originally signing up to a 1 year contract, the relationship has grown in recent months and KTN are now working with The Data City to support their ambition of creating industry sector specific RTIC code lists, such as the recent Cyber dataset which identified over 2,300 cyber security businesses in the UK, 95% more than estimated by recent analysis carried out by the government itself.

Alex Craven, co-founder at The Data City says “We have a fantastic relationship with KTN who are actively involved in the steering of our product development roadmap and RTIC production, which we believe will hugely benefit the whole of UK economy.”
