Using robust evidence to support UKRI, the Innovation & Research Caucus (IRC) develops evidence-led research and innovation policies, strategies and decision-making, providing insights into what works, where and why. Two key members of the IRC are Raquel Ortega-Argiles and Halima Jibril.

They were interested in mapping the Engineering Biology industry, wanting to dive deep and research niche verticals within the sector. Our platform, with its machine learning and keyword filtering tools, proved to be the perfect place to uncover these emerging economy companies.

Not only were the IRC team able to map engineering biology as a sector, but they were also able to go deeper, managing to identify very specific niches within the industry.

In addition, having access to Innovate UK grant funding and company sizes helped the analysts to characterise companies. Plus, since all of the companies in our platform are tied to a company registration number, analysts were free to enrich their company lists with data from other sources.
