Comprehensive view of the UK’s Sport & Physical Activity industry
The project
The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) is the professional development body for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector.
In 2022, CIMSPA came to The Data City with a goal to better inform their understanding of the UK sport & physical activities sectors as well as looking for a way to provide their members with easily digestible access to this data in an aggregated format. They wanted to incorporate Lightcast data on jobs & skills with existing data from their chosen sectors. An essential part to the project was to also develop a separate platform for CIMSPA members to access this information in an easy to understand and simplified way. We worked with chosen partner Calls9 to deliver this for CIMSPA.
Our approach
Our partnership with CIMSPA began with onboarding their team onto our platform and showing them how to navigate the wealth of data.
We worked together to develop taxonomies of CIMSPA’s chosen sectors and built a series of Custom Industrial Classifications (CICs) for CIMSPA to interrogate and extract value from. In the meantime, we began working with Lightcast – a global leader in labor market analytics – to establish how we would overlay their jobs & skills data with our CICs, all whilst working with Calls9 to develop a solution that could grow with CIMSPAs needs.
The outcome
In the first 6 months of working with CIMSPA we had built their 6 CIC sectors, including the Lightcast jobs & skills data, for analysis and interrogation. We also launched the members directory showcasing our aggregated data. This leap forward in valuable data for the CIMSPA teams gave them a whole new opportunity to engage with their membership, along with the ability to create industry leading reports moving forward.
