In late August, the first ever Esports World Cup (EWC) came to a close in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Sponsors beyond gaming such as Pepsi, Adidas, and KitKat highlighted that the Esports sector has gone mainstream.
This year, by some estimates, over half a billion people will watch at least some Esports. The sector’s global revenue is predicted to reach nearly $2bn in 2025. I wondered how well our data captured this growth and the companies making it happen.
We don’t currently have an Esports vertical or Real Time Industry Classification (RTIC), so I used our Global platform to create a training set of 37 companies which returned a list of 841 companies linked to all-things Esports ranging from event organisers to training clubs.
Filtering by country in our Global product is as easy as one click. So, I decided to assess Esports companies in Germany!
What we found
In Germany, we found 60 Esports companies, with 444 employees, that have received $10 million in investment funding. One of these businesses is the leading German Esports data infrastructure company, GRID.
