Battery Supply Chain explained

Battery Supply Chain refers to the UK-based companies involved in the production, assembly, and recycling of battery technologies, critical for industries like electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage. A supply chain describes the process by which a product is made and delivered to consumers, and in this case, it spans everything from mining and refining critical minerals to manufacturing battery components, cells, modules, and packs, as well as battery recycling.

Developed in 2024-25 by The Data City, sector experts, and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), this RTIC maps the full UK battery supply chain, excluding firms based outside the UK or primarily operating in other sectors.

Providing a real-time view of the UK’s battery industry, this RTIC helps policymakers, investors, and businesses understand and strengthen the supply chain driving energy storage, EVs, and net zero goals.

  • Sector Code Description Records
  • RTIC0097 Battery Supply Chain *New 841 companies

Companies involved in the major parts of the battery supply chain, including mining, refining and production of critical minerals and chemicals, designing and manufacturing battery parts, semi-finished products, cells, modules, and packs, and designing and operating recycling facilities. This RTIC has been developed through a collaboration between The Data City, sector experts and the Department of Business and Trade (DBT) in 2024-25. This RTIC focuses on firms with a physical UK presence targeting battery supply chains and for these purposes therefore excludes vendors that are based outside of the UK or companies that may sell into batteries but primarily focus on an alternative sector. Every effort has been made to manually exclude firms whose main operations are based outside of the UK (e.g. a mining company with headquarters in the UK but whose mines are abroad), but some may still remain.
