Introducing our new ‘Future Telecoms Supply Chain’ RTIC, developed in partnership with the Department of Science, Innovation and frontier sector.
At The Data City, we’ve always been at the forefront of identifying and mapping the UK’s emerging economies. With over 400 Real-Time Industrial Classifications (RTICs), built using AI and expert insights, our platform helps users understand cutting-edge technologies.
We have been collaborating with the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to build over 10 different RTICs for the emerging and frontier sector. As part of this work, we are happy to announce our brand-new ‘Future telecom supply chain’ RTIC.
What does the Future Telecoms RTIC include
The sector maps the companies involved in the design and manufacture of components and (sub-) systems relating to the technologies relevant to Future Telecommunications Supply Chains.
This RTIC focuses on specialist telecoms firms with a physical UK presence targeting future telecoms supply chains.
Therefore, excludes those companies with a wider service and product offering such as telecoms operators, vendors that are based outside of the UK or companies that may sell into telecoms but primarily focus on an alternative sector.
This RTIC goes beyond the limitations of traditional classification systems like SIC codes, which have struggled to keep up with modern industry developments. Instead, our RTIC harnesses machine learning, web scraping and expert input to build a dynamic mapping and understanding of the sector.
If you want to explore the traditional telecommunication sector, you can look at our existing Telecommunications RTIC.
The process
The RTIC was developed through a structured process:
- Experts from DSIT defined the taxonomy, which forms the sector’s framework/skeleton.
- This was then turned into lists using our machine learning.
- Specialist sector experts reviewed the list and iterations to refine it.
- Finally, we did manual checks to ensure accuracy before the RTIC went live.
