On the 23rd and 24th June five members of The Data City team are taking on a challenge to walk the elevation of the National 3 peaks, with our wonderful clients CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity). The team will be completing this challenge whilst carrying 20 kilograms in weight, to represent the 23.4% of obese children in the UK.
CIMSPA invited us to support this cause to raise money and awareness that children in the UK are in crisis. Whilst this issue is nothing new; the pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis and the war in Ukraine have driven the terrible inequalities existing around sport and activities for young people to devastating levels that will impact many generations to come.
Kelly Weston, our COO, said “as a coach at my local football club, which is also used for cricket, running and hockey, I see the benefit our children get from a huge choice of sporting activities. Young people from low affluence families often do not get the same opportunities in sport and ‘No child left behind’ looks to address those inequalities through free access to sport. The Data City are delighted to be a main sponsor of this event, as well as taking part and raising money through the challenge.”
The challenge raises money for Youth Sport Trust which gives young people a platform to have their voice heard and a place to feel they belong. “We harness this extraordinary power to change young lives today and help them build a brighter tomorrow. Together we transform lives through sport and play.”
