1. Introduction and Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Data City Innovations Limited, trading as The Data City, is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across our UK operations by 2050 at the latest. This Plan sets out our current emissions footprint, our reduction targets, and the actions we have taken and plan to take to get there.

As a small SaaS company with a single UK office and a hybrid/remote team, the majority of our emissions footprint sits in Scope 3, not Scope 1 or 2. This is our first Carbon Reduction Plan. Some figures below are confirmed; others are actively being gathered and are shown with an expected completion date rather than left blank.

 

2. Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline year: 12 August 2025 – 11 August 2026, reflecting the most recent 12 months for which complete supplier billing data is available. As this is The Data City’s first Carbon Reduction Plan, the baseline year and current reporting year are the same period.

Scope 1 — Direct emissions

Zero. The Data City has no gas or fuel combustion, no on-site boilers, and no company vehicles used for business purposes. Business-owned EVs are for personal use only, with no business fuel or charging costs.

Scope 2 — Purchased electricity

The Data City occupies its own office space in Leeds across two electricity accounts, on a 100% renewable (REGO-backed) electricity tariff, and is reporting on a market-based basis.

Total consumption for the baseline year: approximately 18,773–19,050 kWh (a small final usage figure remains outstanding due to a supplier billing cycle boundary; see note below). Location-based emissions, using the current UK grid average conversion factor, are approximately 2.46–2.50 tCO2e.

One of our two electricity meters (Unit 4) came into use from 17 October 2025, partway through the reporting year; all available consumption from that date is included. No estimate has been applied for the period before connection, as no supply existed.
